Before you take a peak.....

You need to be aware this is our old blog. Dave (the blogger) started blogging when, as a family, we went to India for 3.5 months from April - August 2008. This blog is the story of our time there. You'll find lots about our story by going to the 'archives' section of the blog to the left below.

The water works don't work!

We found out yesterday that there is a problem with the water here! We have got used to power cuts (average of one a day) but this water issue is affecting the whole Hutchins Rd area (where we live) apparently. Elsa and Georgie (the landlords who live below) say they have spoken to the water board and it may be at least 2 months before it's sorted!!! So that's it for water until we go home!????
Apparently there is a major problem up the street and there doesn't seem to be a lot of rush to sort it. Strange that for India!!!!! Not too sure of details....
All this means we can still use water BUT have to be sparing with it which is no bad thing but living in this culture you just need water all the time: Gallons to drink, gallons to wash in as you get so sweaty and gallons to wash clothes in as the get dirty so quick. So if water is short it becomes real problem.
Elsa and Georgie are greta at helping us out and there is a possibility that they are going to try and access water from their bore well which will cost them to sort out and may mean the water coming in for the time being is not brilliant apparently. It sounds like we need to get the big (10 litre) mineral water bottles for drinking water and then be sparing with the other water.
It' all a bit frustrating as we are not able to control what happens with the water people and things move so slowly.
As an outsider coming in, problems like this are bound to keep happening as there are ridiculous amounts of new properties being built with no attention being paid to the need for the infrastructure to support these new houses (sewage, water, electricity etc). Ah well, lets hope it doesn't impact us too much.
No bad thing having a reminder of how cautious we need to be in a country like this with a precious commodity like water.
