I have met a guy a few times now at Raj's Church called Jacob Isaac. Have heard a fair bit about him. Bit of a visionary and pioneer in Bangalore. He has established an
organisation in the City that is not totally
dissimilar to the Fishermen Trust called '
Kerygma'. We went to their coffee shop/drop in today to meet with some of the guys there and hear of their work. He's coming to the UK later this year so I hope
to meet up with him at home.
Kerygma is a non - profit organization, founded by Jacob and his wife Sheela in August 1997.
Their projects include:
Redshift cafe: The drop in cafe we went to today.
T4L (Thanks for listening): A counselling service for young people.
Coffee Talk: Kerygma's main work is with young people in Bangalore through coffee houses (based in college hostels) where the staff meet with young people and help them.
Training: Jacob is well qualified so undertakes training in various ways
They also have a drug rehab centre which is kept a little more under wraps.
There are some strong similarities with
Jacob and his Trust and Raj and his although some clear differences too. It was exciting to see what Jacob and his team had done in 10 years and wonder where the Fishermen Trust would be in 10 years too....??
