Left the house at 7.30am for a 8am breakfast meeting with one of the key trustees of the Fishermen Trust - a good friend of ours called Praveen. Raj meets with him weekly for support and wise counsel.
Had a great time with some real honest debate about the role of trustees, getting finance from the UK (or not!) and other really key issues.
From there we went to a friend of Raj's called Bublie (nickname). He runs a human resources/personal development company (big one) called Mind View. Bublie does big training in the IT hub of India for the big corporate companies on values and similar training.
We spent some good time with Bublie and he agreed that Rob (who is coming on the 4th of July) from Space2think and I can do some high level corporate training with some teams here and charge a good rate and then all of the money earnt can go to the Fishermen Trust. Could be the equivalent in the UK of a few £000's. Cool eh??
From here we went to Accept India. Accept stands for ACCEPT stands for Aids Counseling, Care, Education,Prevention Training Society. Read more about them here. Talk about contrast from Mindview!!! This is a HIV home for adults with a separate centre for kids who are orphans of parents who have died of HIV. All residents have HIV or AIDS.
We saw some very sad cases there but also some people who have just found happiness again.....
The kids loved playing with the 20 or so kids that live there. They had such fun there.
As a family, we have offered to go to Accept every week as volunteers and they are letting us know at the weekend. Ifg the answer is 'yes' and it seems like checking is (an appropriate formality) it looks like we may be teaching some English and doing some sports with the kids. We bought 30 skipping ropes with funds raised by Es and Josh's school (St James Primary in Hereford) yesterday so we can take those there to give away.
Accept is a wonderful place of sanctuary in a beautiful location. It has been graded the best it can be for HIV care in India.
Here are some pics of the place and the residents:
Bed now at 11pm but what a day.......
